Walking Disaster( Beautiful #2) By Jamie McGuire

Title: Walking Disaster
Author: Jamie McGuire
Publication Date: April 2013
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK

How much is too much to love?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love Hard. Fight Harder.
In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. Just when he was invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Jamie McGuire's New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster Abby had her say. Now it's time to see the story through Travis's eyes.

didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

Finally the wait for Walking Disaster is over and for huge fan's of Abby & Travis couldn't have been more excited for this, I know I certainly was.
The first book Beautiful Disaster is Abby Abernathy's side of the story and how she thought of Travis, Now in this book it's bad boy & womaniser Travis Maddox's side of the story and what went on deep down in that handsome head of his and why he fell for Abby so hard...

Yes, this book is a love story but deep down there is darkness and edginess between them both with plenty of trust issues but that is what makes us readers love the couple ever so more.
Travis and Abby are both at college which is where they meet, Shepley( Travis' cousin) and America(Abby's best friend) are also mentioned in BD and WD an awful lot, which are both great characters too.

It starts off with Travis being a little boy and his mum in hospital is slowly but she gives him one last piece of advice, "Love Hard...Fight Harder..." with Travis being little he didn't really understand what his mum meant  until he was older and found Abby his very own Pigeon in which he nicknamed her.

I really loved this book so much especially because you get to read this from a guy's point of view, As we always say "There is always two sides to every story" which is what you get with this series. The Author Jamie McGuire, is a fab writer who certainly knows how to get her readers hooked and make you want your very own bad boy Travis Maddox.

This is one series you are going to adore & read over & over again.I know I will! You will not be dissapointed at all! They are great reads with plenty of emotion but also lots of love too!

Author Interview with Lindsey Kelk

I had the ever so lovely pleasure of Interviewing the ever so fashionable Lindsey Kelk, author of the 'I heart' series and the single girls to do list. Here are the wonderful questions I asked and what Lindsey replied back with.

1)     With your new book About a Girl due out 4th July, please could you tell us a little bit about it?
It’s a funny, summery adventure about a girl called Tess who has her entire life turned upside down. When she loses her job and the love of her life all in one week, she makes a pretty drastic decision… hilarity ensues.

2) If you could describe About a Girl in 5 words, what would they be?

Funny, escapist, fun (totally different to funny), romantic and hopeful.

3) What Inspired you to become a writer and follow your dream?

I’ve always been a writer, ever since I as tiny, but I never thought it would ever be a career option. I wrote I Heart New York when I was bored senseless with everything else in my life. Once it was finished, I gave it to a friend to read and she pushed me to try to publish. It really was the book that inspired me to try.

4) Out of all your books, which did you love writing and researching about the most?
They all have their pros and cons! I Heart New York definitely felt the best when I was writing it because there was no pressure or expectation but researching About A Girl in Hawaii was pretty incredible.

5) Which travel destination do you love and why?
I love to travel so it’s hard to choose one place. New York is my home but it’s also my favourite place to play tourist. I also love Austin, Texas, LA and of course, Hawaii. I’ve never been much of a beach person but Hawaii transformed me completely. I want to be there, all of the time. It is heaven.

6) What are you currently reading? Is it worth recommending?
Ha, I’m actually reading The Intferno and Catcher in the Rye. Don’t ask me why but yes, they’re both worth it. Next up, I have The Rosie Project, I’ve heard good things.

7) With another "I heart" book out later this year, can you give us a little sneak of what is happening with Angela & Alex this time?

I could but then I’d have to kill you.

8) Are you a Kindle Fanatic or still love a good paperback?
I have a Kindle and love it when I’m traveling but I still love a proper book, paperback, hardback, I’m not fussy.

9) What inspried you to write the "I heart" series?
I was bored! Once I was half way through the first book, I knew I wanted to write a series, I just loved the characters so much.

10) Your a British Girl at heart but now live in New York (which by the way, Im rather Jel! hehe) which do you prefer?
I cannot tell a lie, New York is home now but I’ll always been British, I’m from Yorkshire for god’s sake, there’s no getting rid of that…

11) What 5 items could you never be without?
I’d like to think I could manage without anything but I do seem awfully reliant on my iPhone, passport, lipbalm, sunscreen and laptop.

12) Do you ever wonder whether the "I heart" series will ever be made into films? (which would be totally awesome hehe!)
I do wonder… we shall see…

13) If you ever have spare time from writing, what do you love doing or seeing in New York?

I hardly ever have spare time, it’s rubbish! But when I do, every spare second is spent with my friends which means they usually set the agenda. I’m very well fed, big fan of brunch and I’m familiar with lots of New York’s bars… I went to the museum of Natural History recently which is awesome and yesterday I snuck out and went to sit in Prospect Park for an hour. It was the first really sunny day and it was packed, even at six in the evening. We love our parks in New York.

About a Girl is out 4th July, You can preorder now!!

Author Interview with Paige Toon

This week I have had the ever so lovely pleasure of having Paige Toon stop by my blog for a few questions, Here's what she had to say....Hi Paige, I am such a big fan of your books, I adore them all and they are the type of books I love that I can read over and over again which I think many of your readers can relate to.
~
Q) What made you decide to start writing books?
A)I've wanted to write for as long as I can remember. It was a childhood dream, so it was one of the happiest days of my life when I got a book deal.
~

2) Before writing, what did you use to do?

A) I worked at Heat magazine as Reviews Editor, which was such good fun. I used to be able to review pretty much any film, book, TV show, album, dvd that I liked. The freebies were awesome! I would have continued to work there and write novels simultaneously, but I had a baby and decided not to go back to work. I know how lucky I am to have a job that works around being a parent.~Q) Out of all the books you have written, which did you love writing & researching the most & why?
A) It would probably have to be Lucy in the Sky, because I was on such a high, having got a book deal. Within weeks of signing, I went to Australia for my mum's birthday. She and I went to Sydney to research Lucy and it was so much fun deciding where Lucy would live, where Nathan would live, where Molly would work, where they'd all go out. I felt like I knew them and I've tried to do that for every book since. I also loved researching One Perfect Summer because I moved to Cambridge at the point in the story that Alice does and it was so amazing researching the city that had become my home.
~
Q) Could you tell us a little sneak bit about your next book?
A) It's called Thirteen Weddings (Apr 2014) and it's about a wedding photographer who falls in love with a groom. The main character is called Bronte, and you heard of her in Pictures of Lily when Lily went to work at Marbles magazine. Bronte was the editorial assistant who Lily covered for and she later went for the Picture Assistant role. But my actual next book (Feb 2014) is the young adult series about Johnny Jefferson's 15-year-old daughter that he never knew he had. All of the details are on www.paigetoon.com if you're interested.

~
Q) Which favourite place/country from your books, do you love the most?
A) It would have to be Australia because I grew up there and still consider it home. I absolutely love Key West, though, and had such a great time researching The Longest Holiday.

~
Q) If you was stuck on a desert island what would be the 4 items you could have?

A) I'd only need one: Bear Grylls! He'd show me how to survive. I could do with some chocolate and a couple of books, too. Oh, and lip salve. Ok, so I wouldn't just need Bear after all...

~
Q) Are you currently reading anything atm, if so is it worth a recommendation?

A) I'm reading The Omnivore's Dilemma - a book group recommendation. It's very well written and interesting but to be honest, I'm only about 4% into it on my Kindle as I just want to switch off when I'm reading a book, not concentrate!
~
8) If you could describe all your books in 10 words what would they be?
  A) Fun, summery, around-the-world, beach-reads, love triangles, tear-jerkers. (I'm counting tear-jerkers as one word, even though it's hyphenated!)

~
Q)  What season do you love the most? Spring? Summer? Autumn? Winter?

A) Spring, because of all the blossom on the trees - so beautiful. And lately the weather in spring in the UK has been better than in the summer!
~
Q)  With all your characters, do you always feel you can relate to them in some sort of way?

A) Always. I'm inside their heads when I'm writing their stories – I'm trying to think like they would think. Naturally they all have a little piece of me in them, too.

~
Q) Are you a paperback kinda girl or a Kindle fanatic?

A) I got a Kindle for Christmas and I have to say, at the moment, I'm a little bit converted. I never thought I would be. But I love having this nifty little device which fits into my handbag and gives me a whole bunch of books at my fingertips! Look forward to seeing you too! xxx
~ Thank you so much Paige for dropping by, Fab answers & will see you on Saturday 22nd June 2013 for book signing in Manchester.

For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy. . .Dating them is the hard part.

Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom. . .until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.

didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

First of all, Why haven't I heard this book before or even this author? I adored this book very much, I thank Sharon Goodwin for asking me to be part of Till death do us part book 2 of Lily Drake series and I thought I best read this book first, I am so glad I did. This book had me hooked from the first chapter and I was always intrigued with what was going to happen next and even had me giggling along with Lily & Val scenes. It is not your typical vampire love story but it is one you will still enjoy even more.

For the first time Cheryl tells her full story, her way. Revealing the truth behind the headlines, this is the only official autobiography, giving the fans the true story they've been waiting for. Includes exclusive, personal photos.
didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

I've had this sat in my TBR pile for a while now and kept putting it off for reading but I finally got round to reading it this week, and I am shocked why I didn't decide to read this sooner, First of all, People who aren't fans of Cheryl aren't going to enjoy this, I'll be honest, However for the real fans then you will enjoy this so much, as its the one and only autobiography that gives you the truth right from the beginning.

I loved how I got to read things from her childhood and how tough it was in the Geordie areas of Newcastle and the rise of drugs as Cheryl was growing was horrible to read with having a family member go through I knew exactly how Cheryl felt when her childhood boyfriend, friends got hooked on the worst drug ever Heroin but she never once gave up her dream of being a star one day!

This is one autobiography I am not going to forget in a heartbeat, I loved it, Cheryl is certainly an inspirational woman with plenty of strength who pushes herself back if she hits rock bottom!
Ladies out in the world need to take a leaf in Cheryl's steps I tell you. Cheryl is completely honest all the way through this book whether its in her childhood and how tough her mam coped or her marriage or what really went down on American X factor, Cheryl is true to her word in her autobiography.

For Cheryl's Soldiers out there, You will truly adore this and be inspired by Cheryl so much. In my opinion after reading this, I actually admire Cheryl so much and is a true role model.
I Salute You!

didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

When I heard Paige Toon was publishing a new book this year I couldn't wait to grab my copy and Boy I wasn't disappointed. Firstly I love the cover, it was so colourful and very eye catching to anyone on a book shelve and is definitely worth buying hehe!
So we meet Laura who has just got married to the man of her dreams Matthew Perry, but Laura's world all comes crashing down when she finds out her husband cheated on a week before their marriage...not the nicest thing to find out after you have got married, Laura just wanting to get away from everything is whisked away by her best friend Marty and Marty's friend Bridget to Key West where they have the times of their lives and manage to cheer Laura up, but when a handsome scuba diver distracts Laura, what is going to happen? and will she go back home after the holiday?

I adored this book so much, It was superb all the way through, Paige just knows how to get her readers hooked on to her books and you feel very warm and close to the characters so easily. My favourite character would have to be Laura, you can easily warm to her and you do kind of feel sorry for her too, because she's not had the best times in life but she keeps on going, I did have a sense of deja-vu when I was reading about her ex childhood sweetheart Will trust..I was like Hold up? I've read about him in a book before now, and with the lovely help of my Facebook friends, they confirmed Laura and Will were both in Chasing Daisy.  Leo a handsome scuba diver how could us readers not love him? He was very hard to warm up to at the beginning though but as you read on, you will be won over girlies, I promise! hehe.

The book was never predictable, each chapter just kept leaving more surprised every time and the twist at the end Paige Toon, You clever girl, I never thought that was going to happen, You even had me in tears until the very last page. I loved and I am going to remember for months, maybe years to come, A very touching story towards the end.
I have been such a big fan of Paige Toon's book for a good few years now and I just can never get enough of her books, they are always amazing and leave you feeling wanting more and more.
I do urge all you big chick lit readers who are huge fans of Paige Toon, then you go grab your copies now! You will not be disappointed, It is the perfect Holiday read for this summer!

I also want to say because the book was so touching and so amazing, I felt it had to have my Gold star rating!! The First one for this year so far and I feel The Longest Holiday is one book your not going to forget in a hurry!

Down London Road By Samantha Young

Title: Down London Road
Author: Samantha Young
Publisher: Penguin Books
Publication Date: 7th May 2013

Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she's about to meet someone who will make her lose control. . .
It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she's been making decisions based on what's best for Cole as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may - or may not --fly.

But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.

Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo's, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo's secrets even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.

didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

First of all I need to say a big Thank You to Katie Sheldrake for my review copy of Down London Road.
I adored this so so much just like I did with On Dublin Street, At first I was puzzled as this being in the ODS series I didn't know who Johanna Walker was but once started reading I realised Jo works with Joss or Jocelyn from ODS at Club 39 which made me a little excited because we got to read a bit more Braden and Joss too hehe.

I knew from when I got this book that I was going to love this book just as much as I did with ODS, You can easily warm to all the characters thanks to the way Samantha writes and describes them well. So we meet Johanna Walker or Jo to everyone, is always juggling things in her life one looking after her younger brother Cole and two always working to keep things afloat for her and Cole. With their dad not around and their mum not very useful, Jo has to keep her family together at all costs...but when a new handsome guy called Cam starts work at the club, can Jo stop herself from being very attracted to him or could things go wrong?

I loved this book and it was amazing, It is definitely has plenty of emotion throughout which for any reader will keep you hooked and always to read more and more. It was great to see Joss and Braden back in the book and reading more about them made me very happy indeed, I loved how Johanna & Cole where always invited for family dinner at Braden's mum & dad's house, it just made you understand the closeness between the whole family and how friendly they all are.
At First I couldn't quite warm up to Cam, I thought he came across as a bit of prick and bit big headed but once I started to see Jo and Cam's relationship blossom I thought he was quite a warming guy who would do anything for Jo with all costs although Jo's insecurities were always going to get in the way.
I wasn't a big fan of Jo's dad, he was an utter tool and for him to do that to his daughter was quite sickening.

Five words to describe this book... Laughter, tears, smiles, Amazingness & Emotional

I just urge you all that you are going to love this book just as much I did and I hope to see more of On Dublin Street series, maybe with Ellie and Adam next time ;)
Thank You Samantha Young for being a wonderful author and writing such amazing books that you have all us ladies wooed by the charms of Braden and Cam ;) Keep showing us these handsome men hehe!

Loveahappyending.com Bookshelf Review : United State Of Love By Sue Fortin

Title: United State Of Love
Author: Sue Fortin
Publisher: FeedARead.com
Publication Date: July 2012

When the past and present collide, love is the casualty. Why? Since splitting from her husband, single mum Anna Barnes is enjoying her new found freedom and independence. Now she can concentrate on looking after her teenage son and building up her career. However, she didn't bank on working for Tex Garcia. The gorgeous American chef is getting the locals hot under the collar and not just because of his culinary prowess!
Beneath that handsome exterior, however, lies a man haunted by his past. Tex can't commit and women pass through his life like dishes going out to service. So what is it about Anna that's different? Can Tex break her self-imposed rule of never mixing business with pleasure and add some spice into the mix? Or is Anna's ex set to spoil the recipe altogether by turning up apparently seeking reconciliation? Is everything as it seems?

didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it didn't like it

Firstly I want to thank Janice Horton for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Loveahappyending.com Bookshelf Reviewer and giving me the chance to read and review Sue Fortin's United State Of Love. I enjoyed this book a lot, I giggled, smiled, frowned, screamed and cried while reading this but i generally did love it!
We meet Anna Barnes a single mum looking after her teenage son but also enjoying her freedom and independence from splitting from her husband ex footballer player Mark, gets a new client of the ever so handsome Tex Garcia an American chef hoping to open a new restaurant with the help of Anna, but when Anna's husband comes back to pester and beg, how will it play between Anna's and Tex's chemistry? ...

This book is great, I loved the style of writing, Sue definitely knew how to keep us readers interested, Boy I was. I got to say I did feel a bit sorry for Anna because some of the things I didn't think she deserved or needed that happening in her life, she just needed Happiness, which I was glad by the end hehe. She certainly was my favourite character in the story and my least favourite was Christine... Eurgh what a witch she was. . . If you read you will understand completely what I mean. Not a nice woman at all, but we all have to have a baddy in our favourite books eh?

I just you all to read United State Of Love, it has plenty of laughs and emotion that you will probably remember for a while. Thank you Sue for such a wonderful book. I would to read more of Tex and Anna though maybe in the future? hehe!

Author Interview with Samantha Young

With the publishing of Down London Road (On Dublin Street #2) just around the corner on 9th May, I had the lovely privilege of interviewing the ever so lovely Samantha Young on my blog today to tell us all a little bit about her new book Down London Road but also what inspired her to follow her dream of being an author.. Read on to see what Samantha told me.

1) Could you tell us a little bit about it?
Down London Road is the second book from the world of On Dublin Street and it follows the story of Johanna Walker, a young twenty-something whose loyalty to her little brother is absolute. She makes decisions based on what is best for him, including dating men who can provide financial security. However, her whole outlook on life and on herself changes when Cameron MacCabe comes into her life and shows her that she just has to believe in herself like he does…

2) What inspired you to follow your dream and become an author?

Honestly, I was at my lowest point career-wise when I decided to put my all into becoming an author. I’d always been a good student so to come out of university with no job prospects except for the part time job I’d had as a student was demoralizing. I ended up returning to the work I’d done before I’d gone to university - admin work - and then I was let go due to budget cuts. Jobless but with three written manuscripts around me I decided to self-publish and put all my time and energy into making a career out of a passion.

3) Which book have you enjoyed writing the most?

Down London Road. There were many good things going on my career as I wrote Down London Road so that definitely helped, but I absolutely loved writing Jo’s story. She’s one of my favourite characters and my first Scottish heroine. I’m proud of her and how she develops as a person over the course of the story.

4) What will you have planned to Celebrate the publication of Down London Road ?

I wish I had something planned but unfortunately I’m in the middle of a never ending house move so I don’t think the celebrating will commence until a few weeks after the release. I think we’ll have a wee party to celebrate the release and also the move finally being over!

5) I adored On Dublin Street, will we see more of Braden & Jocelyn in the future?

Definitely.

6) If you could describe Down London Road in 10 words...
Emotional, hot, real, sexy, authentic, earthy, funny, passionate, relatable, moving.

7) What book are you currently reading and is it worth recommending?

I’m currently re-reading the Downside Ghosts series by Stacia Kane. It’s one of my absolute favourite series. It’s a uniquely different world Stacia Kane has created but also probably the best chemistry between two main characters ever!

8) Do you have any more ideas for future On Dublin Street series books?

I’ve just signed a deal with Penguin for a third book in the On Dublin Street series. More info on that will be revealed soon…

9) If you could choose any country or place to live, where would it be?
I think I’d like to live in Boston or Seattle temporarily but I’ll always come back to Scotland.

10) Not that I don't enjoy your books , but do you think you will ever write any stories without sex?

I think all my books will have a hint of romance but I think there are some books that I have in mind for the future that aren’t so romance-based and thus sex won’t play as important a role.

11) How do you get these hunky handsome men in your books so hooked for us readers?

Lol, I just write men that are perfect for my heroines. They have a touch of the alpha male which is hot, because a confident man is always hot, but they also understand my heroines are independent and can compromise with that. I think that makes them more likeable to readers.

12) If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you take?
If the desert island had electricity I’d taken my kindle, its charger and a lifetime supply of crisps. If the desert island didn’t have electricity, which is more than likely, I’d take my paperback of The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness, The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and a lifetime supply of crisps.

13) Have you started planning your next book, if so could you give us a little hint?

I’m working on the third book in the On Dublin Street series, but I also have a secret project I’ve been working on too…

14) Did you have to do any research for any of your books?
I had to do research on Virginia for On Dublin Street and research on some Americanisms, but because the books are set so close to home, I didn’t have to do nearly as much research on this series as I’ve had to do for my young adult urban fantasy books.

15) Are you a Kindle convert or do you. still enjoy a good paperback?

I adore my kindle but I still love my paperbacks. I just love books.

Thank You Samantha for stopping by, I adored On Dublin Street and I loved Down London Road and I am sure a lot of people are going to love as well. Definitely in the great pile with Sylvia day's and E L James fans.
